Stop Offshoring
Thursday, June 21, 2007
Recent news shows another casualty in offshoring: our children's health. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said a majority of recalls issued by the agency this year have been for Chinese-made goods. What's even more disturbing is that in many of these cases, the goods were manufactured for American or European companies, i.e., they were produced as a result of offshoring.
- 1.5 million Thomas and Friends toys were recalled because they contained lead paint
- Hasbro recalled nearly 1 million Easy-Bake Ovens made in China after reports of children getting their hands stuck and receiving burns
- Graco recalled 40,000 stuffed fabric blocks because a plastic film covering the toys caused gagging and choking
Is it really worth it to save a few bucks by putting our children in danger?
