Stop Offshoring

Now that Barack Obama is the newly elected President, it remains to be seen what impact he will have on offshore outsourcing. During his campaign, Obama said, "I will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America". However, tax policy may not be enough to change what companies do because taxes are not the only cost savings that companies believe are available through offshoring.

The CEO of Infosys, a large Indian outsourcing firm, said he isn't worried, citing that similar promises to curb offshoring have been made during previous presidential campaigns, but nothing became of them. If Obama is truly a new type of politician, as his campaign claimed, he has better not drop the ball on this issue.
