At a meeting last week, one of my Indian coworkers talked about how he had friends and relatives in India from non-technical backgrounds who went through a six-month programming curriculum and then came to the U.S. to obtain programming jobs. He thought it was amusing that it was so easy for them to get jobs here with minimal experience.

Of course, I didn't find the story funny at all. It just reinforces my belief that many of the Indian developers I've worked with are grossly incompetent (now I have a better idea why). What's tragic is that American companies are willing to hire these untrained people rather than hire Americans who are more knowledgeable and have more experience -- all in the name of saving a few bucks.
