Stop Offshoring

I recently got some disturbing insight into the mind of an executive who has chosen to pursue offshore outsourcing. Our VP of Engineering pulled me into his office to gather "candid" feedback about our offshoring effort. As soon as I told him the first issue that I had (the productivity of the offshore team), he shut me off and began giving me a discourse on his view of offshoring. Basically, he didn't care how well the offshore team performed or how much time we had to spend to support them. His most important concern was that we make it work because the offshore employees are so much cheaper than local employees. Even when I pointed out that the amount we spent corresponded to how much we were getting in return, it didn't matter. He only saw the hard dollars spent per offshore employee. This is a sad commentary on how short-sighted American executives are when it comes to offshoring.
