Stop Offshoring

A Wall Street Journal article I recently read talked about the declining value of a (U.S.) college degree. The story began with the story of a woman with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. After advancing in her career for a few years, she was laid off in 2002. She took a number of temporary and low-end positions, and in 2004, her former employer offered her a job similar to the one she had before -- at a third of her former salary.

Her story isn't uncommon. The first half of this decade, when the subject of the article suffered such career setbacks, was also the time when offshore offshoring exploded. Coincidence? Hardly. The WSJ journal, in fact, cites globalization as a major factor in decreasing the value of our degrees.

Offshoring increases, our quality of life decreases. Doesn't sound like a good trend to me.
