Stop Offshoring

With the U.S. slipping into a recession, it will be interesting to see if companies will turn to offshoring again. The practice of outsourcing white collar jobs abroad took off during the last recession of 2001-2002. However, with a weak dollar negating cost benefits and more than five years of offshoring horror stories, will companies still decide that offshoring is the key to weathering the economic storm? Only time will tell.

This is the last week that my company's Indian offshore team will work for us. I am so glad they're going to be gone, and I'm not alone in that opinion. Especially since the beginning of this year, their incompetence has been extremely painful for the rest of us. It's universally agreed, all the way to the top ranks of the company, that hiring the Indian team was a bad idea. Even though they cost less, management realized that the savings were not worth it, and that they would've gotten more bang for the buck by hiring American workers. I wish more companies would wise up.
