I came across this article that's appropriate for this Christmas season: Offshoring Santa: Even his suit is made in China. It tells the tale of the last Santa suit manufacturer in the country, Halco, whose suits have been seen in movies and on TV. This year, Halco let go of its domestic workers, and the Santa suits are made in other countries instead. Merry Christmas indeed.

Recent posts have talked about the possibility that the offshoring tide may be reversing because of the weak U.S. dollar. However, according to the Everest Research Institute, offshoring is expected to remain strong in 2008. The advisory firm's conclusions are based in part on the belief that large organizations currently in the exploratory phase will take the leap into offshoring.

Update: It's interesting that the author of the Everest Research Institute story is Call Centers India, Inc. Might they be just a bit biased in presenting offshoring in a good light??
